If you're a coffee lover, then you know that grinding your beans is the key to a perfect cup of coffee. Freshly ground coffee beans taste so much better than pre-ground beans, and if you enjoy aromatic coffee then grinding your own beans is the perfect way to unlock their incredible aroma.
If you're looking for a quality burr grinder that will help you grind your coffee beans like a pro, then the Bodum BISTRO Premium Burr Grinder is a perfect choice! In this blog post, we will discuss the features of this grinder.
Introduction to the Bodum Bistro Premium Burr Grinder
The Bistro Premium Burr Grinder is a sleek coffee grinder and is great for those switching from an alternative such as a blade grinder. This is mainly due to its price and simplicity making it a great option in the entry-level grinders category. It features as part of the eBodum bistro range and is their premium higher-end electric burr coffee grinder.
This electric burr grinder offers multiple grind settings from fine espresso through to coarser settings for brewing with a french press etc and unlike a bistro blade grinder it offers much better grind consistency thanks to its stainless steel conical burrs. Simply add coffee beans to the top coffee bean container, select your grind size, and with the simple push-button control - start grinding.
Coffee grounds are collected in the borosilicate glass catcher which reduces static cling. It comes with a neat lid so it doubles as a sealed bean container for keeping beans fresh or as a sealed ground coffee container. You can even use it to store your coffee grounds in the fridge if you want to make iced coffee or cold brew.
The whole design allows for fuss free cleaning and is surprisingly easy to clean in comparison to other burr grinders at this price point.
How well will it grind my coffee beans?
We've had this electric coffee grinder on demo for some time now and so far we've been impressed with the consistent grind it produces. The simple-to-use adjustment dial on top of the grinder lets you quickly control grind duration whilst a twist of the hopper configures the grinding gear and conical burr to set the adjustable grind size.
We've used the grinder at its finest setting for an espresso machine or for experimenting with our new blends in the roastery using a V60 dripper. The variety of grind size and grind times range is perfect for most brewing methods and the clever preset timer means you can control the grind duration to take the guesswork out of finding the right amount of beans to grind.
The grinder will hold around 220g of beans in its top-loading hopper although the grind container will hold slightly less than that so it's worth bearing in mind if you plan to grind a lot of beans at once (we'd recommend buying an airtight container for this purpose).
Another neat little feature we love is the ground coffee container. It's made from borosilicate glass which makes it easy to clean and doesn't cause a static build-up to occur from beans passing through the steel burrs. The result is that you don't end up with coffee flying everywhere each time you remove the container.
How well do the stainless steel conical burrs perform?
The stainless steel conical burrs are durable and capable of grinding all types of coffee beans. You'll notice a consistent grind comparable to some of the more expensive machines in the burr grinder category although the full range is limited to medium-coarse for French press and a finer setting suitable for most espresso machines.
Something that's quite key to this Bodum coffee grinder is the onboard friction clutch which prevents unnecessary wear to the conical burr. A friction clutch helps by preventing damage to the grinding gear when it comes into contact with objects such as small stones.
Do Bodum offer more than one Bistro Burr Coffee Grinder in the Bodum coffee grinders range?
Yes, there are two options when looking for a Bistro Burr Coffee Grinder from Bodum. The first is the standard model which uses less durable materials in its build, notably plastics, rubber, and silicone whereas the model discussed in this blog post is the Premium Bodum Bistro Grinder variant which uses higher quality materials in its overall build and features a borosilicate glass catcher/ground coffee container for your grind rather than plastic.
Cleaning your Bodum Bistro Burr Coffee Grinder
Always disconnect the burr coffee grinder from the mains before cleaning. The grinding ring, coffee bean container, and ground coffee container are fully removable for fuss-free cleaning. Brush the grinding ring with a soft brush, and use a damp cloth to wipe the coffee bean containers and housing. Alternatively the ground coffee container and lid are dishwasher safe.
The Bodum BISTRO Premium Burr Grinder is a great choice for those who are looking for an affordable, quality burr grinder. It's easy to use and produces consistent results, making it perfect for anyone who wants to make their own perfect cup of coffee at home.
